Transcervical Insemination (TCI)

Transcervical insemination deposits the semen directly into the uterus.  It is performed by inserting an endoscope into the vagina, visualizing the cervix, passing a catheter through the cervix, and injecting the semen through the catheter and into the uterus.  The bitch does not need to be sedated or anesthetized for the procedure.  Fresh collected, fresh chilled, and frozen semen can be used for a TCI.  One or more TCIs can be performed per heat cycle.  If multiple breedings are available, you can perform 2 TCIs or 1 vaginal AI and 1 TCI or 1 surgical implant and 1 TCI.   When a vaginal AI is performed, the semen must make their way through the cervix, which presents a challenge for the semen as the cervix is filled with many folds and is often very tight.  By bypassing the cervix, the semen use their energy to get to and into the egg instead of using energy to get through the cervix.   Surgical insemination also bypasses the cervix, but requires anesthesia and an incision is made into the abdomen to reach the uterus.
